Credit Report Discrepancies

The first step to credit report repair is assessing the accuracy of your credit report. You’ll know where you stand by ordering your free annual credit report. Subsequently, if you notice false or inaccurate information, you are entitled to dispute it. You cannot dispute accurate information but disputing false information is one key to improving credit.

It is important to note that if you attempt to order your credit report from each of the three major agencies separately, you will be charged for a credit report you may be entitled to for free. To obtain your annual free credit report utilize www.annualcreditreport.com.

While you can dispute any inaccurate reporting on your own, you also have the option of hiring a credit repair services company, who will dispute on your behalf for a nominal fee. Note that under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA,) “Both the consumer reporting company and the information provider (that is, the person, company, or organization that provides information about you to a consumer reporting company) are responsible for correcting inaccurate or incomplete information in your report.”
